Thornton / Dickinson Golf Outing 2009
The second annual Thorton/Dickinson Golf Outing was held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Reading Country Club. This year’s event attracted close to 100 golfers, joining together for a morning of fun and sport, all for a good cause. Joe Dickinson, event coordinator, and several event volunteers, presented a check for $13,500 to be used to help support hospice patients in need. For the last two years, Joe and his dedicated group of volunteers, have worked tirelessly to see that the golf outing, dedicated in memory to their co-worker, Linda Schalin.

" Linda Schalin was a great friend and may be the most devoted worker ever in the Telcom department at Vanguard Industries. Tragically in 2001, a battle with breast cancer ended her life early. During her battle with cancer, Linda was an inspiration to us all. She always came to work cheerfully. Although we all knew she was struggling tremendously with a difficult disease, her public face was one of ease and comfort. Linda taught us all a lesson in courage and grace. Today Linda’s picture still hangs prominently as we remember our good friend and coworker.      Linda stayed at home with her mother and father (Dottie and Bill) during her sickness. Towards the end of Linda’s battle with cancer, The Hospice and Palliative Care Program of The Home Care Network (a 501c charity) was a tremendous help to both Linda and her parents. We asked Linda’s parents for a good cause to remember Linda, and they quickly asked for the monies to go to the hospice."- Joe Dickinson
